Update: Mike Castoro analogue Seminar @ Misty HIll Audio

Mike Castoro of Wunder Audio and Misty HIll Audio hosted a seminar for the students of TRCoA. From tape machines to analog eqs and compressors to analog mixing desks, Mike walked the students through a history of the gear many plug-ins in today's digital environment attempt to emulate.

Upcoming Events

With the holidays upon us, TRCoA wishes everyone a happy and safe holiday season. 2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year for TRCoA. TRCoA will be moving into our new facilities in the spring. With its world-class studio design and breathtaking views, the new facility will inspire both students and musicians alike.

Look for more announcements as we continue our seminar series. These seminars present industry experts to speak on a wide range of topics that have an impact in the music world. These seminars are free and open to everyone.

We are really excited to present the 2nd Annual TRCoA Unsigned Artist Competition in 2008. The winner of the 1st Unsigned Artist Competition, Sean Calahan Band, is currently in full production with John Stinson at TRCoA/Stinson Studios. More details will be announced as the date gets closer.

Who's in the Studio

Cynthia Clawson & Craig Hella Johnson

Conspirare is releasing a very special recording, Angel Be. This is a collection of live recordings with Cynthia Clawson and Craig Hella Johnson. These recordings were engineered by John Stinson, founder of TRCoA and Stinson Studios. Cynthia Clawson has been singing the gospel for more than four decades. Called “The most awesome voice in gospel music” by Billboard Magazine, she has received a GRAMMY and five Dove Awards for her work. Craig Hella Johnson has earned a reputation as one of the most influential choral conductors in the United States as Founding Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed choral group Conspirare. Under Johnson’s leadership, Conspirare has been the recipient of three NEA grants, two GRAMMY nominations for its most recent recording, Requiem, and was awarded the 2005 Margaret Hillis Award For Choral Excellence. Listen to a clip from Cynthia and Craig.

Be sure to attend Conspirare's Christmas at the Carillon, a cherished Austin holiday tradition. Held during the week of Dec. 5 - 11, Conspirare always creates a unique program each year. See the Conspirare site for more details.

Scott Harris and She Craves

She Craves is in the studio working with Scott Harris, from BigBang Music and a TRCoA Advanced Music Production student. Formed in 2007, She Craves has developed a strong following; their anthemic choruses and smartly crafted hooks are hallmarks of the band's sound, as are live shows that teeter on the edge of control as the band churns through their set with unrelenting energy and force. She Craves is fronted by Christine Ely, guitarist Matt Cole, drummer Ben Mills, and bassist Tim Brown. Listen to a clip of Jenny from She Craves.

Josh Woodhouse and Larry Hilliard

TRCoA alumni Josh Woodhouse from Droplink Productions is working with alt-country artist Larry Hilliard. Droplink Productions and Larry Hilliard worked together producing a 2006 release. When it came time to track the next recording, Larry approached Droplink Productions to help produce the recording. Working with Larry on these sessions were players such as Michael Ramos (Los Lonely Boys, John Mellancamp). Casey Just (Casey Just and the Phsycophonics, Casey Just). Travis Woodard (Gene Pool), and Craig Lawrence (Travis Damron and Cutlass Supreme). Listen to a clip of music Larry and Josh are working on.

Be on the look out for upcoming Droplink Productions projects from about:blank, currently overdubbing, and Poise, which is in pre-production for his upcoming album. Droplink Productions is excited to announce their new Mixing/Production Suite. Josh has built up a great environment to produce the projects Droplink is involved in.
