SXSW Follow-Up

SXSW this year was fantastic. We spent lots of time with the Universal Republic Team... such as Eric Clinger (A&R Universal Republic), Tom Sturges (Publishing Universal Republic), Nanci Walker (Publishing Universal Republic), Brian Howes (Producer), Tom Mackay (A&R Universal Republic), and many others. We saw such artists as Live and Die in L.A., Waxplanet, The Wombats, Amy Winehouse, Great Glass Elevator, Borne, Ronnie Day, Black Tie Dynasty, and many others. These act are from all over the world and almost all of them are completely unknown and unsigned. Its great what you can see at SXSW when you hang out with some of the best A&R representatives in the business.

Christian Castle Music Law seminar

TRCoA is pleased to announce that Christian Castle will be speaking to the students of TRCoA on current and past music law, how music law is changing, and how and where distribution is headed. The seminar will be on Monday, April 9th from 6-8pm.

Chris Castle has devoted most of the last 20 years to practicing traditional music law and technology transactions. He represented artists such as Sheryl Crow and Meredith Brooks and producers such as Tom and Chris Lord Alge in his early years of practice before moving in-house to be Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs at A&M Records in Hollywood and Senior Vice President, Business Affairs at Sony Music Entertainment, Inc. in New York. In addition to traditional music and technology crossover matters, Chris advises clients on matters of public policy and current legislation relating to the copyright community.

This is a mandatory event for all current TRCoA Students and strongly recommended for all TRCoA's Alumni. This event is also open to the public, everyone is welcome. Click here to rsvp and request a map to the studio.

Who's in the Studio

American Graveyard with Scott Harris

Scott Harris, a Beginning Audio Engineering student, is in the studio with American Graveyard. Band members Chris Watkins, Jim DeGregorio, Doodle Cox and Billy Jack Phillips have been polishing their unique blend of country, bluegrass, and down-home rock-n-roll, while throwing in elements of punk rock, psychedelia, blues, and jazz. It's a sonic buffet with a little taste of everything. American Graveyard is known for playing high octane live shows full of spit and whiskey, while throwing in slower elements of dark country, and the occasional taste of the weird. Listen to a clip from one of the tracks the boys are working on.

Zach Hillyard with Ethereal Architect

Ethereal Architect is in the studio working with Zach Hillyard, a TRCoA Beginning Engineering Student. Ethereal Architect is a new design in the classic progressive metal structure. Influences ranging from early power metal, to melodic death metal, and into the modern progressive scene forge a distinctive sound that is both poignant and intricate. Complex rhythms and unconventional harmonies form the foundation for blazing riffs, searing leads, and powerful vocals. Listen to a clip of a song Zach and Ethereal Architect have been working on.

Travis Bonner with Assailants

Travis Bonner, a recent graduate of TRCoA, is in the studio with Assailants. Coming out of San Antonio, with Ryan on vocals, AJ on guitar, SteveO on guitar and J on drums, Assailants produces sounds to brutalize your senses in the progressive/hardcore/deathmetal genre. Listen to check out a track Travis and Assailants are working on.
