Mike Castoro analogue Seminar @ Misty HIll Audio

On Friday, November 17th Mike Castoro of Wunder Audio and Misty HIll Audio will host a seminar for the students of TRCoA. Misty Hill Audio is one of Austin's premier analog studios and Mike will discuss the history and sounds of the gear in the studio and track a small session. Mike is also the owner of Wunder Audio which designs and produces EQ's and mics based on the vintage Neve 80 Series Console, AKG C7 and C12, and Neumann U47 products. This is a great opportunity to learn about the classic analogue equipment many of today's plug-ins emulate in a modern digital environment. The event starts at 1 pm and is mandatory for all current TRCoA Students and strongly recommended for all TRCoA's Alumni.

Austin Music Foundation : Music Mixer and MIBC Follow-Up

Mark your calendar on November 7th and 28th for the upcoming Austin Music Mixers hosted by The Austin Music Foundation. The music mixers are held at Opal Divine's on West 6th Street from 6:30 - 8:30. Austin Music Mixer provides the opportunity for local musicians and industry folks to get to know each other in an informal environment. It's all about networking, relationship-building is important in creating business opportunities especially in the music industry. The November 28th mixer is a mandatory event for all current TRCoA Students and strongly recommended for all TRCoA's Alumni.

On another note, the AMF Music Industry Boot Camp "Indie Labels: the Real Deal" event was a great success. The panelists, who spoke at MIBC to a packed crowd, had great insights and helpful information regarding Indie labels. Read about the top five takeaways here.

Who's in the Studio

Travis Bonner with The Son of Man

Travis Bonner, a TRCoA student in the advance class, is working with local Austin band The Son of Man. The band is made up of Ronnie (right) on guitar, vocals and harmonica, Moshe on bass, and Carter on Drums and tambourine. Their sound is influenced by Wilco, Kings of Leon, Pearl Jam, The Doors and Led Zeppelin. Listen to a clip from Son of Man.

Bo Smith with The Johns

Bo Smith, one of TRCoA's advanced students, is in the studio with The Johns. The Johns are a four-piece Roots/Southern Rock/Alt. Country outfit, influenced by Wilco, Replacements and Rolling Stones. Their songs possess mature lyrics and a guitar driven sound. Their EP has drawn rave reviews from local DJs and music fans. Their loud and tuneful songs signify the return to a truer rock sound. Listen to a short sample of the latest track from The Johns.

Joshua Saunders with The Kentucky Shade

Joshua Saunders, a TRCoA advanced student, is in the studio with The Kentucky Shade. Formed in Austin, TX. in the spring of 2003, The Kentucky Shade features Sam Stolte on drums, Jonas Hodges on bass, and Zack Booth as primary song composer, guitarist, and lead vocals. This three-piece plays punchy, mid-tempo rock and roll. Think Townsends guitars meets Firehoses busy rhythm section, and throw in some three-part harmonies to boot. A comment overheard at a recent show: The Kentucky Shade is an icy toboggan ride in the dark with little control, virtually no brakes, and a minimum of visibility. Listen to a clip of the track.

Scott Harris with Jason Marbach

Scott Harris (left), a beginning class student, is in the studio with Jason Marbach (right). Jason is a songwriter whose songs are country or Americana tunes with beats from slow to swing to blues to near rock. An avid performer, he loves interacting with the crowd - and judging by his results in recent months (in which he's opened for such greats as Shake Russell and Charlie Robison), the audience loves him, too. Also in the studio is Brennen Leigh to provide background vocals for an additional song Scott is working with Jason on. Listen to a clip of the track.
