NAMM Summer Session
When
NAMM (National Association of
Music Merchants) decided to run their summer session in the Live
Music Capitol of the World, the Recording Conservatory of Austin
was there. TRCoA's students were exposed to the latest and greatest
products from leading manufacturers, like AKG, Mackie, Neumann,
Taylor, Audio Technica, and Sony. In addition to new products from
the big names – like the new dual-diaphragm Artist
Series microphones from Audio Technica – there were many other
obscure manufacturers with some amazing new products, such as the wireless
"foot loose" pedal.
Protools Class at NAMM
TRCoA
students also had the great opportunity to meet DigiDesign's
head of training Andy Cook and take a class that showed off some
of ProTools 7's best new features.
Geoff Emerick & Chuck Rainey Interview
In
July, TRCoA students attended an interview with Geoff Emerick (engineer
for the Beatles and others) and world-renowned bassist Chuck Rainey,
hosted by the Austin Chapter of NARAS
(National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) at the Austin
City Limits sound stage. TRCoA's students had the opportunity to
hear Emerick and Rainey tell of their historical experiences and
how it affected their work. Also, Emerick described some of his
industry-changing techniques like his unique placement of the kick
drum microphone.

Who's in the Studio
John Pointer
Singer,
songwriter, performer, and human-beatbox John Pointer is now in
the studio working on his latest album, Schizophonic. The album,
produced by TRCoA founder and Stinson Studios owner John Stinson,
is nearing completion after many arduous hours in the studio. John
Pointer is a great addition to the Stinson Studios roster of clients,
not only because of his jaw-dropping musical talents, but also because
of his unique approach to online marketing and music distribution. One
thing's for sure: anything that comes from the John Pointer camp
will be uniquely innovative.
Listen to a short clip from one of the new songs
from Schizophonic.
Conspirare
Conspirare,
through their focus, hard work, determination, and attention to
excellence, have established themselves as an up-and-coming force
on the national choir scene. It has been a real honor to be an integral
part of many of their recorded productions. Robert Harlan and John
Stinson are currently working on editing together the latest installation
of "Christmas at the Carillon", an annual series of live performance
CDs that have, year after year, set Conspirare above and beyond
any other professional choir.
Listen to a short clip from the upcoming "Christmas
at the Carillon 2005".
The Reverie
Charlie
Nuñez, one of TRCoA's Advanced Music Production students,
is in the studio with a young up and coming Emo/Indie Rock band
from Dallas, TX called The Reverie. The Reverie is set apart by
their unique choice of chord changes, playful vibe, and storytelling
writing style.
Listen to one of Charlie's first mixes.
Grimmy Styles
One
of TRCoA's Beginning Audio Engineering students, Martin Moeller,
is in the studio with Grimmy Styles. Grimmy Styles is a unique blend
of reggae and trance. The band's success and popularity has revolved
around their fun, free-spirited, groove-oriented vibe.
